John has farmed Allanhill as an arable business for over 30 years. He diversified into game farming, supplying shooting estates, in the early 1980s and then moved into soft fruit production in 1995.
Originally a linguist, Lucy worked in international sales before starting Allanhill Farm Shop in 2001. The shop and café are designed to showcase Allanhill fruit to locals and visitors during the summer season.
Soft Fruit Manager
Tom grew up on a farm in Cambridge before completing a Management Trainee Scheme in 2002 and spent several years learning his trade on fruit farms around the UK. He joined Allanhill as Soft Fruit Manager in 2007. Tom manages all aspects of the soft fruit business.
George has worked in agriculture all his life. After working in Angus and Fife, George came to Allanhill as Arable Manager in 1999. He is the longest serving member of the team and manages all aspects of the arable business, maintains all machinery and organises spraying of the strawberry crops.
Assistant Soft Fruit Manager
Graham joined the team at Allanhill in 2001, previously working on another fruit farm in Fife. Graham assists the Soft Fruit Manager in the everyday management of labour and oversees all aspects of irrigation and fertigation of the strawberry crops.
Ventsi is Bulgarian, and came to the farm as a picker in 2007. She has experienced many roles on the farm including Packhouse Manager for two seasons. Now Ventsi is office-based, liaising with and recruiting all the seasonal workers and taking care of wages.
Jackie started with us at Allanhill in 2003, initially as our sole administrator. Today, she takes care of the Allanhill Farm accounts and ensures all our documents are compliant with current legislation and customer requirements.
After working on several fruit farms around the country, Carlos joined Allanhill in 2014. Originally from Portugal, Carlos now manages the Tunnel Team, responsible for ensuring all of the tunnel operations are efficient and working to a tight schedule.
Alina first came to the farm from Romania in 2014 as a picker. She returned in 2015 and started working in the packhouse. Over the next few years Alina worked her way up through the packhouse as a QC, supervisor and then becoming the Packhouse Manager in 2019.
Alper is Bulgarian and arrived in 2006 to pick strawberries. He joined the Tunnel Team, began operating machinery and became a full-time tractor operator. He now sprays all the strawberry crops and also works with the Arable Team, cultivating and harvesting the crop. He also assists with the maintenance all of the tractors and machinery.
Irrigation Team Leader
Originally from Bulgaria, Minko irrigated crops on another fruit farm before arriving at Allanhill in 2008. He is now responsible for irrigating and feeding all of the strawberry crops, and ensuring his team are taking the best possible care of the plants.
Plamen is from Bulgaria. He arrived at Allanhill in 2006 as a picker, joined the Tunnel Team, eventually joined the Packhouse Team and worked his way up to Packhouse Manager. Plamen is now in charge of harvesting all the strawberries with the help of his team of supervisors and up to 400 pickers!
Irek is Polish and came as a picker in 2010. He became a Harvest Supervisor, then was promoted to Campsite Manager in 2015, responsible for accommodation, induction training and assisting with recruitment.
